Installing Safety Line on Your Cablecam

When working with aerial systems over people, safety is not optional—it’s fundamental. That’s why we’ve designed a secondary safety line system as a standard accessory for our cablecams. This isn’t because line failures are common—in fact, we’ve never had a single incident involving a dropped system—but because redundant safety measures are essential for responsible operation.

This isn’t only about physical safety—it’s also about the operational viability of your project. Event organizers, safety coordinators, and insurance providers are all far more confident when they see a setup that includes redundant safety elements. The secondary rope helps demonstrate your technical rigor and commitment to minimizing risks. That translates into smoother approvals, faster deployments, and peace of mind for everyone involved.

And because we know your time and energy are valuable, we’ve designed the secondary line system to be easy to install, non-intrusive, and compatible with the existing performance of your rig. Here’s everything you need to know to properly install the secondary safety line on your Noxon Cablecam. Let’s get to it.

What’s in the Kit?

  • Dyneema rope (high strength and low stretch)
  • Carabiner
  • Main safety bracket

Before You Start: Install the Primary Operating Line

Before you set up the secondary system, it’s crucial to install and test the primary operating line. Choose your two anchor points carefully, calculate the necessary tension and sag using our Tension Calculator, and proceed with the line installation using a winch or pulley system. If the winch reaches its limit, use intermediate knots and anchor tie-offs to extend the process safely.

Proper installation of this main line ensures the Cablecam moves as intended and defines the reference height for installing the safety line.

Step-by-Step: Installing the Secondary Line

1. Thread the Dyneema Rope

Begin by threading the Dyneema rope through the structure of the Cablecam.

Pass it through here:

And here:

2. Secure the Rope to the Carabiner

Tie the end of the rope to the carabiner. First, put the rope extremes like this:

Now, put them into the carabiner:

3. Attach the Carabiner to the Safety Bracket

Clip the carabiner to the designated hook or loop on the main safety bracket of the Cablecam like this:

Lock the gate completely and double-check that the connection is stable.

4. Install the Secondary Safety Line on the Rig

After confirming your main line is under tension and performing correctly, set up the secondary line. This should be mounted parallel to the main rope, but with a slightly looser tension.

To make the installation easier, you can remove the lower bracket from the Accessory.

Just pull the clip out from the screw:

Finally, just remove the bracket.

The secondary line’s only job is to catch the Cablecam in the event of a failure—it should never interfere with its motion during normal operation.

By giving it a bit of slack, you ensure the traction wheel continues working exclusively on the main line, without interruption or added resistance.
